Canadian Gear Head

Welcome to Canadian Gearhead!

Hey, I’m Tim and I’ve been obsessed with cars since I was a kid. I currently own a 1991 Toyota MR2, a 2007 Toyota 4runner, and a 2002 Harley Davidson Night Train. More on those later.

I’ve worked in the automotive industry for quite a few years in both the manufacturing and detailing fields. Because of this, I’ve had the opportunity to spend time with some pretty cool cars, trucks, and bikes. I’ve tested a lot of products during this time – some I loved and others not so much. I believe I’m experienced enough to provide a valuable, unbiased opinion to those of you who may be looking for help or guidance.

Aside from detailing, I’ve learned a ton about aftermarket parts and gear. You see, I can’t seem to own a stock vehicle and leave it alone. As a result, I love to personalize my vehicles to suit me and other people tend to appreciate my style. I’ve seen many trends come and go. I believe a timeless project car is one that you’ll enjoy for decades, not for one season of car shows.

As time goes on, I think we’ll see the custom car community go back to its roots of clean, functional vehicles. If that’s the case, then it’s our job to preserve them with longevity in mind. They say we never truly own a car – we just take care of them until we die. That type of passion is what this site and brand are built on.

Enough about me. If you’re anything like myself, you don’t care about the writer – you’re here for the cars. Let’s take a brief look at the vehicles that you’ll be seeing a lot of on this site. I won’t go into too much detail now but you can look forward to reading a Feature article on each one (and others!) in the future.

Red Toyota MR2

THE MR2:

I purchased this car nearly 13 years ago in lightly modified form. My first round of changes was fairly simple: new wheels, a front lip and a set of aftermarket gauges.

Just a year later in 2007, it went under the knife and was transformed into the beast it is today. It still maintains its classy looks but now it produces more than double the horsepower. Many rare parts were used during the build and they each add to the unique character of the car. My favorite part about this one is that it scares me nearly every time I drive it. All of the MR2’s details are shared here.

Lifted 4runner

THE 4RUNNER:

To be honest, I’ve only owned this rig for about a year and a half. When the time came to replace my Jeep Grand Cherokee, I knew I needed something that was just as capable, just as comfortable, and reliable. These 4runners have been proven time and time again both here and overseas to be virtually bulletproof.

I chose a V8 Limited model for its luxury features and towing capacity. Being a daily driver, I wanted to keep this one stock. Obviously, that didn’t happen although the setup on it is relatively mild. This 4runner gives me the confidence of knowing I can go anywhere, at any time, in any weather. Harley Night Train

THE HARLEY:

It may seem like this one doesn’t fit in with the otherwise all-Toyota or all-Japanese group. You’d probably expect me to ride a sport bike given my other vehicle choices. I do love those bikes but I’ve always had a thing for Harleys. I actually bought mine sight unseen on Ebay and imported it from the US. That made this bike my biggest bargain-buy to date. You can read the full feature article here.

In the future, you’ll see what it’s like to own these 3 vehicles and care for them over time. I think you’ll enjoy my unique perspective on things.
